La mai puțin de 24 de ore după ce a bătut palma cu președintele Cornel Șfaițer, portughezul Tony da Silva, 43 de ani, a condus primul antrenament la Politehnica Iași. Fostul fundaș al lui CFR Cluj a semnat un contract până la sfârșitul stagiunii cu Iașiul și are ca obiectiv salvarea de la retrogradare.

Pentru început, președintele Cornel Șfaițer a ținut să-i mulțumească lui Leo Grozavu pentru tot ce a făcut la Poli Iași și și-a exprimat speranța că va avea succes și cu Tony, la Iași, așa cum s-a întâmplat cu alți tehnicieni la formațiile pe care le-a condus.
Apoi, noul antrenor Tony da Silva a explicat că timpul este foarte scurt și nu îi permite să-și implementeze filosofia sa despre fotbal. Dar a dezvăluit ce poate schimba rapid în vestiarul Iașiului.
”Nu ar fi corect să nu vorbesc mai întâi despre antrenorul Leo Grozavu, care a făcut istorie și a promovat echipa. Din păcate, la fotbal, când nu sunt rezultate, vinovat este antrenorul. La final, obiectivul de salvare va fi și al lui. Nu sunt multe de vorbit, trebuie să ne băgăm la treabă. Trebuie să le dăm încredere la jucători, pentru că există calitate multă în lot. Sunt la curent cu ce se întâmplă în fotbalul românesc, dacă nu aveam informații despre Poli Iași nu eram aici. Am avut deja oferte să vin aici anul trecut, în prima ligă (n.r. s-a vorbit despre interesul FCSB-ului), dar nu vreau să dau nume. Nu am venit pentru că știam că nu este un proiect pentru mine. Am ales să vin la Iași după ce am vorbit doar cinci minute cu Cornel Șfaițer, pentru că a avut încredere în mine. Știu jucătorii de la Iași, nu stă în caracterul meu să vin undeva unde nu știu nimic despre echipă. Trebuie să fiu sincer, mai sunt 7 meciuri și e greu de schimbat ceva. Sistemul tactic e greu să-l schimbi. Fizic, suntem la final de sezon. Noi ce trebuie să facem, să dăm încredere la jucători, să schimbăm atmosfera în vestiar, iar jucătorii să intre pe teren cu curaj. Jucătorii să intre cu curaj pe teren și să apere acest blazon care le dă de mâncare. Presiune este în Ucraina, nu aici. Avem sănătate, facem ceea ce ne place, jucăm fotbal, avem public. Avem mare nevoie de suporteri, ei să fie al 12-lea jucător, iar eu al 13-lea”, a declarat Tony da Silva.
